Meet the Superintendent - Anne Hubbard, Ed.D.

Dear Hope Elementary School District Community,

I have been serving as the Hope School Superintendent since July 2016. I grew up in San Jose, graduated UCSB with a B.A. in Communication Studies, and then returned to UCSB to earn my teaching credential. I taught for 20 years in elementary (mostly 5th grade) and in middle school (mathematics) in San Jose. In 2009, I went back to graduate school at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo to get my M.A. in educational leadership and an administrative credential. In May 2018, I completed my doctorate work and earned an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Concordia University, Chicago.

I am the mother to 4 adult children, two high school students, and am "Granny Annie" to my young granddaughter and college aged grandson. I like to say that I have been every kind of mother - a biological mother, step mother, foster mother, and grandmother.

I started my administrative career as an assistant principal at a middle school in Paso Robles, then moved to a middle school in Cupertino. After my husband retired from his job as a Battalion Chief for San Jose Fire Department, we decided we could live anywhere. We were tired of the crowds and frenetic pace of the Bay Area, so I took a job as a principal of Washington Elementary School here in Santa Barbara. I led Washington Elementary School for two years and loved it. During this time, I also started my Ed.D. program with several of my colleagues from SBUSD.

In 2014, I took on the role of superintendent in Cayucos Elementary School District in SLO County. This was a great learning experience for me, but it meant I lived away from my husband, two youngest kids, and my niece who was living with us at the time. The separation from my family was challenging.

When opportunity to serve Hope School District as the superintendent came up, I couldn't pass up the wonderful chance to work in this district with such a strong and supportive community, three phenomenal schools, and an incredible group of highly dedicated and caring teachers, administrators, and staff.

I have truly come to love this little district. I thrive from the opportunity to get into classes and interact with the students on a regular basis. My absolutely favorite thing about my job is any time spent with students! The ability to stay connected to kids, while leading the district as a whole, makes this the perfect job. I look forward to many years serving the Hope School District.

Sincerely,
Anne Hubbard, Ed.D.

Realmente he llegado a amar este pequeño distrito.

Atentamente,

Anne Hubbard, Ed.D.
